Obituary

E. Scott Whitmore, 73, of Dunlap, passed away December 12, 2021, at his residence. He was born on February 4, 1948, in Peoria the son of Robert and Marian (Wilton) Whitmore. Scott met Deborah Ann Fay at Corn Stock Theatre in Peoria, shortly after high school. They later married on May 27, 1972, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Chillicothe.

Scott is survived by his daughter, Jennifer F. Whitmore of Machesney Park; son, Joshua S. (Anne) Whitmore of Dunlap; four grandchildren, John Dominic, Jude, Julia, and Diana; and one sibling, Mariana Williams of Oak Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marian Whitmore; wife Deborah Ann Whitmore; and two siblings, Robin Whitmore of Palatine and
Marty Morrison of Dickson, TN.

Scott graduated from Peoria High School Class of 1966. He was involved in choir and was known for his cooking talents. After high school, Scott briefly attended Millikin University before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army as a cook during the Vietnam War. He later worked for Caterpillar, Inc. as an engine assembler and retired after 35 years.

Scott loved the theatre and rejoined the local community theatre after his kids were older. His first show back was Damn Yankees in which he brought his son into the fold. For a number of years, theatre became a family affair for the Whitmores. Scott and his son worked mostly on stage, while his wife and daughter worked backstage and ran several shows. He was also involved with the Caterpillar Mixed Chorus.

Scott also enjoyed taking pictures, watching the birds, reading, and attending Bradley University basketball games with his friends. He was known for breaking out in song from musicals and other ditties from his memory at any given time. Scott had a song or quotation for any conversation.

Scott loved his kids and grandkids and was excited to add Jennifer’s fiancé, Steven KinCannon, to the family.

Scott was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Peoria, where he sang in the choir and served as an usher.
