Shirley R. “Billie” Thompson, 94, of Peoria, passed away at 3:58 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Methodist Medical Center.
Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015, at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria, with Pastor Mike Shirey officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln.
Billie was born on June 7, 1921 in Coffeen, a daughter of Rufus C. and Anna C. (Haenny) Redding. She married Hudson L. Thompson on June 7, 1941 in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1996 in Danville. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, two brothers, and a daughter, Connie Young.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Tony) Lasko of Fishers, IN and Leslie (Bill Elkins) Harland of Peoria; son in-law, David Young of Michigantown, IN; seven grandchildren, Nick, Chad, Melissa, Chip, Andy, Craig and Nate; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Billie was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran, serving as a Cryptographer. She retired in 1989, after nineteen years of service, as a secretary in the Sales Services Department for International Paper in Peoria.
She was a member and volunteer at Northminster Presbyterian Church and enjoyed volunteering for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and serving as an Election Judge.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to her church, the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association-Central Illinois Chapter.
Arrangements have been entrusted with Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
