Rev. Henry G. Hein, of Peoria, passed away and went to the place that his Lord,
Jesus Christ had prepared for him on Sunday, July 30, at his home. He was born
on February 27, 1929 to Henry and Edith Hein in Chicago. On January 29, 1955
he married Barbara J. Thayer at Christ Church in Chicago. She survives. He was
preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dorothy Ford, and one brother, Carl
Guthjahr.
Henry and Barbara have four children, David (Kathy) Hein of Rockford, Sharon
(Merle) Hall of Bradford, Kathleen (Greg) Miller of Metamora, and Patricia Hein of
Peoria, eight grandchildren, Nicole (Jim) Voelker, Michelle (Tim) Schroeder,
Andrew (Haley) Miller, Lisa (Jeff Ryan) Hall, Samantha Hein, Sarah (Rob)
McCormack, Jonathan (Nicole) Hall, and Derek (Becky) Miller and twelve great-grandchildren.
Henry graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Speech, then went on
to McCormick Seminary in Chicago to earn his Masters of Divinity. His first
church was the Presbyterian Church in Assumption, IL where he served for
seven years. Then he came to the First Presbyterian Church in Peoria where he
served for twenty-three years.
Henry loved his family and enjoyed every visit with his children, grandchildren,
and great grandchildren, and they all loved visiting him. He loved vacations and
would regularly encourage his children and grandchildren to go on trips. He
appreciated music, was an avid reader and lifelong learner, seeking out new
learning opportunities whenever he could. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 14, at noon at First Federated Church,
3601 N Sheridan, Peoria with the Rev. Steven Barch officiating. There will be a
visitation an hour before the service.
Memorials can be made to the Illinois Cancercare Foundation, St. Jude, or First
