Renda L. Gauwitz, 68, of Maquon, passed away at 3:48 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born on October 29, 1948 in San Jose, CA, the only child of Fred and Margaret (Wilson) Patrick. They preceded her in death. She married Jacob Gauwitz on February 5, 1967 in Carson City, NV. He survives.
Renda is also survived by her children, Caren Gauwitz – Geckler of Palmyra, IN and Scott (Lona) Gauwitz of Maquon; grandchildren, Lindsay (Shane) Foster, Jeremy Gauwitz – Geckler, Sophia Geckler, Katie Gauwitz, Hunter Gauwitz and Ryder Gauwitz; and great grandchildren, Gage and Gracelynn Foster.
She taught sign language at ICC for over 20 years. She also worked at Dynamic Graphics until 1989 when she began teaching full time at ICC. She interpreted for many places and events, such as the Deaf Miss America Pageant and news programs.
Renda also taught horseback riding to children with disabilities.
Per her wishes, there will be no public visitation or service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
