Ralph Mankle

Ralph Eugene Mankle, 86, of Peoria, passed away at 4:14 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on October 25, 1929 in Dunlap, a son of Charles Richard and Edith Otillia (Oertley) Mankle. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jack, and one sister, Vera Spiva. He married Patricia A. Messerla on September 5, 1953 in Miami, FL. She survives.
Ralph is also survived by his children, Timothy (Debbie Orange) Mankle of Sebring, FL, Monica (Hugh) Austin of The Villages, FL and Shaun (Jennifer) Mankle of Peoria; siblings, Erma Pullen of Princeville, Donald (Mary Lou) Mankle of Curlew, IA, Orville (Doris) Mankle of Sargent, NE, Jerry (Bonnie) Mankle of Dunlap and Carol (Roger) Miller of Bradford; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran and was a member of American Legion Post 1078 in Dunlap.
In 1991, Ralph retired as a mechanic for Caterpillar’s Mossville facility, after twenty-five years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 974.
He enjoyed fishing, Country Western music, woodworking, St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball and spending time at Oak Run. He always thought of others, never himself. He was a simple man and a hard worker.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made in Ralph’s name to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation or to the family.
