Orvetta F. “Betty” Cox, 99, of Decatur, passed away at 4:07 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at McKinley Court in Decatur.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Central Christian Church in Decatur, where she was a member for over 70 years, with the Reverend Michael Karunas officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur.
Betty was born on May 29, 1917 in Hallsville, a daughter of Gillard and Molly (Kindred) Harris. She married Willard M. Cox on November 14, 1938 in Clinton. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1987 in Decatur. She was also preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Lou Sturgis, Sandra (Rex) Perry and JoAnn (Tim) Ulland, all of Decatur; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and one on the way; and two great-great grandchildren.
Betty was a volunteer at Decatur Memorial Hospital and at St. Mary’s Hospital. She also served as an election judge, for many years. She enjoyed playing Scat, Bingo and Bunco.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to her church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
