Michael Dentino
October 3, 1930 — December 14, 2011
Michael Patrick Dentino, 81, of Peoria, passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, as a result of respiratory failure, after a brief illness. His family was by his side.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, with recitation of the Rosary following. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2011, at St. Thomas, with his son, Father Darren Dentino MC, as celebrant. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
Michael was born in Peoria on October 3, 1930, a son of Michael and Arnita (Barto) Dentino. He married Margaret C. Crowley on October 23, 1954 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2011 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dianna Basso.
He is survived by his children, Michael III (Debra Duzinskas) of Beijing, Deirdre (Gregory) Clemons of Germantown Hills, Domine (John) King of Normal, Dianna (John Gielow) of Milwaukee, Dr. Andrew (Monica) of Milwaukee, D’Arcy Conley of Peoria, Matthew of Waynesville, OH, Fr. Darren of Rome, Italy, Douglas (Terilyn) of Plymouth, MI and Dr. Daniel of Naples, FL; sisters, Grace Kelly and Sue O’Donnell, both of Peoria; brothers, Dr. Mauro Dentino of Yorba Linda, CA, Verne Dentino of Peoria and Vernon Dentino of Peoria; thirty-five grandchildren; and one great grandson.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was a Varsity Letterman on the Notre Dame Fencing Team. He was named the University of Notre Dame (Peoria Chapter) Man of the Year in 1973.
He was employed in various managerial positions with Caterpillar, Inc. After thirty-three years of service, he retired as Caterpillar’s Manager of U.S. Sales Support. He then became the Vice President of Sales for Gibbs-Cook Equipment Company in Des Moines and served on the Board of Directors for Aggregate Equipment & Supply Co. in East Peoria. He was also Vice President of the Bradley University Leadership Development Center and served as the adjunct Professor of Comedy at Bradley.
Michael was very active with the Peoria Players Theatre, CAT Chorus, Conklin’s Dinner Theatre, Zellmer’s Dinner Theatre, Peoria Ballet, Tazwood Dance Company, and Peoria Corn Stock Theatre, where he was a charter member. He also served on the Chagrin Falls Little Theatre Board and the Planning Committee for the National Comedy Hall of Fame.
He was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights and was a lector at both St. Thomas and St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria.
Memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s memory to the Missionary of Charity Fathers or St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue in Peoria.
