Mr. Michael Edward Allar, age 88, formerly of Peoria passed away on Saturday March 11, 2023
at Davie Nursing and Rehab in Mocksville, North Carolina. He was born on September 30, 1934
in Peoria, IL. Michael married Ramona Adkins on June 16, 1957 in Peoria. Mike and Ramona
were happily married for 64 year until Ramona’s passing in 2021. They are now reunited in love.
Mike graduated from Woodruff High School in 1952. He attended Bradley University, where he
was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega and Theta Ki Fraternities. He graduated in 1956 with a
Bachelor of Science in Education. He went on to receive his Master of Arts in Education
Administration from Bradley University in 1967.
Michael was an educator, principal, and superintendent for several school districts in the Peoria
area, including Limestone and Peoria Heights. Most of his career was spent in the IVC School
District in Chillicothe, IL. He loved children, teaching others to play chess, reading, crossword
puzzles, and vegetable gardening.
He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves. Mike worked several summers at Don
Greenwood’s Sky Ranch Day Camp. He also taught at the Balda Driving School.
Michael is survived by two sons: Stephen (Chesney) Allar of Copley, OH, Robert (Michelle) Allar
of Winston-Salem, NC, one daughter-in-law Gwen Allar of Westchester, IL; five grandchildren:
Andrew, Garrett, Isabella, Emily and Benjamin; siblings: one brother Terry (Cindy Small) Allar of
Seattle, WA, and one sister Lynne (Steve) Meine of Fenton, MO; and several nieces and
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Bridie (Lyttleton) Allar, wife, Ramona
(Adkins) Allar, and one son, Daniel Edward Allar.
A visitation will be held on March 25, 2023 at Cumerford-Clary Funeral Home in Peoria from
11:00 to 1:00. Funeral service will begin at 1:00. Reverend Aletha Weatherall will officiate the service.
Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Peoria, IL.
