Melvin E. Coulter, 83, of Peoria, died at his home on October 15, 2014 in Peoria.
Melvin was born on November 2, 1930 in Peoria to John and Ethel (Plack) Coulter. He married Norma J. Kranz on March 21, 1954 at Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Surviving Melvin is his wife, Norma; two sons, Kevin G. (Jan) Coulter of Peoria Heights, and Todd M. (Kimber) Coulter of Dunlap; three granddaughters, Amy (Curt) Wesner of East Peoria, Kari (Dan) Turner of Princeville, and Victoria Coulter of Dunlap; three grandsons, Eric (Melissa) Coulter of Secor, Nicholas Coulter of Dunlap, and Benjamin Coulter of Dunlap; and two sisters, Bernice Grauer and Deloris Kranz, both of Peoria. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Coulter; three brothers, Elmer Coulter, Reuben Coulter, and Clifford Coulter; and two sisters, Virginia Finke and Evelyn Woosley.
Melvin was a part owner of Peoria Disposal Company and retired after 45 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church his entire life where he participated in various church activities; he also enjoyed helping with the Heart of Illinois Food Harvest, where he was a volunteer. Camping and traveling in his motor home was one of Melvin's favorite things to do.
A funeral service for Melvin will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 135 NE Randolph Avenue in Peoria. Pastor Mark Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be held at Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials in honor of Melvin may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or UnityPoint Methodist Hospice.
