Margie Becerra

Margie E. Becerra, age 104, of Peoria, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at her home.

Margie was born on October 14, 1917 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Robert D. and Madge May (Love) Montgomery.  She married Frank Becerra on May 1, 1936.

Margie leaves behind her daughters, Sylvia Hunt of Springfield, IL, Lynda Gates of Springfield, IL, Sharon (Jim) Wick currently of Peoria, IL; 15 grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.  She also had three great-great-grandchildren on the way.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her son, Paul Becerra; her grandson, Gregory Jones; and one step-grandchild, Jeffrey.

Margie started selling Avon and developing film at Collins Photography among other jobs.  She went back to school after 50 years of age and worked her way up to head secretary at the Department of Public Health in Peoria and was the Hometown Hero, appearing on the local news, when she retired at 80 years of age.  Margie sewed, crocheted and quilted beautifully.  She loved her daily crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble and Majong on her computer and iPad.  She also loved her dogs.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 2pm at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria with visitation held one hour prior at the mausoleum.  Burial will be immediately following next to her husband in Resurrection Mausoleum.  Pastor Kerry Frantz will officiate.  Social distancing and masks are expected for the safety of all who attend.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Grace Presbyterian Church.  Arrangements are under the care of Cumerford-Clary Funeral Home in Peoria.  Online condolences may be made through www.cumerfordclary.com
