John Wirth

John A. Wirth, 89, of Peoria, passed away at 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Bread of Life Church, 9201 North Industrial Road in Peoria, with Fr. John Blossom officiating. Inurnment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
John was born in Highland Park, MI on February 17, 1924, the son of Carl Kingsley and Cora (Meyer) Wirth. They preceded him in death. He married Lee Brunswick in Kenmore, NY on June 29, 1946. She survives.
He is also survived by his daughters, Candy (Peter) Rypczyk of Long Lake, NY and Wendy Wirth of Peoria; granddaughters, Nicole and Alexis; and sisters, Margaret Frey of Greenwich, CT and Betty Avery of Peterborough, NH.
John was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a geologist for Sun Oil Company and then a Social Studies teacher for Mt. Pleasant Public Schools in Mt. Pleasant, MI.
He was a member of Bread of Life Church in Peoria and a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant.
John was equally passionate about his family, his church and serving his community. He loved traveling with his wife and children and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was actively involved in many different community projects, including assisting in the construction of thirteen homes for Habitat for Humanity. He was also a Rotarian for over thirty years, with twenty-five years of perfect attendance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to Habitat for Humanity or the Bread of Life Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
