John Seamon

December 28, 1936 — February 21, 2013

John (Jack) Joseph Seamon, age 76, died 2:03 pm on February 21, 2013 peacefully at home with family at his side following a year long battle with cancer.

Jack was born December 28, 1936 in Springfield, IL but moved to Peoria at a very young age with his parents. He married Donna Wheelock in 1959. She survives. Also surviving are his three children, Laura (Seamon) Simmons of Peoria, Kathryn Seamon of St Paul, MN and Joseph K. Seamon of Tasmania Australia, grandsons Alexander Simmons of Peoria and Marcus Simmons of Chicago and niece Susan (Roberts) Fischer of Naperville,IL. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph M. Seamon and Anabel (Moore) Seamon Northrop, his sister Jo Anne (Seamon) Roberts and nephew Michael Joseph Roberts.

He was proud to be a Peorian. He attended Peoria grade schools and has been an active alumni of Peoria Central High School class of 1954. He graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Automotive Technology. He thoroughly enjoyed a lifelong interest in all things automotive related, particularly classic cars.
Jack was employed by Caterpillar Inc for 36 years and appreciated that association. Several work related moves to different states and Europe led Jack to a broad exposure of new friends and opportunities. Jack enjoyed people, travel, history and learning. He always asked questions with an inquisitive mind and he never followed a straight road home as he meandered to explore and stopped to visit along the way. He was a good friend to many.

With his retirement Jack traveled to Alaska, Mexico, Israel, Sicily, Spain and Russia. He enjoyed driving a patrol car as a volunteer Sheriff. He loved being involved with the Wheels "O" Time Museum serving as Vice President for many years. He guided groups of children and adults through the museum on personal tours, acted as a Host to greet guests, facilitated car clubs visits and restoration projects and helped to improve and maintain the buildings and exhibits of the museum. He will be dearly missed.

Jack had a lifelong affiliation with the First United Methodist Church of downtown Peoria and enjoyed wonderful family friendships within the Wesley Sunday School Class. He was a faithful man who loved and cared for his family well.

The service for remembering and celebrating Jack's life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 116 N.E. Perry Ave, Peoria, IL 61603 on Tuesday February 26, 2013 at 11 am with Dr Robert Philips officiating. Visitation will also be held at the church Monday February 25, 2013 from 6-8 pm & one hour before the service on Tuesday February 26, 2013.
