PEORIA - John "Paul" Hoffman, 85 of Peoria passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Paul was born on January 18, 1935 in Carlock, Illinois to Louis W. and Edna May (Treece) Hoffman. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger sister Melody. Paul is survived by his wife, Roxanna (Hyman) Hoffman; his 5 children, Laura (Dave) Van Verst of Laura, IL, David Hoffman of Peoria, IL, Ruth (Patrick) Hauer of Peoria, IL, Peterjohn (Christy) Hoffman of Peoria, IL, and Nancy (Steve) Queen of Peoria, IL; 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Also surviving are his siblings, Joy (Chuck) Boardman of Beloit, WI, Lois (Don) Kamp of Eureka, IL, and Lowell (Wanda) Hoffman of Normal, IL.
Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960. He then married Roxanna on September 2, 1962 in Churubusco, IN. Paul worked and retired from Caterpillar as an Electrical Engineer with several patents. Paul spent every day of his retirement at his farm in Goodfield, IL where he worked on his tractors and cars he collected over several years. He always said this was his favorite place in the world to be. Paul had such a tender, sensitive heart and he loved his family and always showed it. His grandchildren made him especially happy, and he never left his family without them knowing how much he loved them. That was so important to him. Paul loved to sing hymns, collect wheat pennies, tell jokes, drink uncarbonated soda, eat tootsie rolls, and his favorite was Hershey Kisses.
Paul was also a follower and believer of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and a member of Grace United Presbyterian Church in Peoria. He always talked about how he missed his Dad in Heaven and how he couldn't wait to get there to give him a hug again. We know without a doubt, that Paul is in Heaven rejoicing with his family and Jesus, and doing what he wished for years, hugging his dad again. We miss you and love you very much.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Cumerford-Clary Funeral Home in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile or World Vision. There will be a celebration of life and memorial service for Paul Hoffman at a later date and time.
