John Heer

Dr. John Charles "Chuck" Heer, 72, of Plainfield, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 2:57 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, with Fr. Thomas E. Taylor as celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.
Chuck was born in Peoria on July 6, 1940, a son of Ruth (Kuhl) and Charles Heer Sr. They preceded him in death, along with his brother, Sam Heer.
He was married to Jane M. Janovetz in 1967. She survives, along with their children, Holly (Jeff) Ott of Peoria, Jeremy (Sarah) Heer of Brookfield and Jason Heer of Chicago.
Chuck met Margaret (Maggie) Duncan in l993 and they were married On June 7, 1998 at Mt. Hawley Country Club in Peoria. The Rev. Anderson performed the wedding and Blended Family Ceremony. She survives, along with her daughter, Emily (Kahlid) Duncan-AbuShalback of Plainfield; and son, Michael E. (Leslie) Duncan of Washington.
He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Shelby Duncan, Mary Heer, Breanna Kellogg, Jay Heer, Christopher Heer, Alice Duncan-AbuShalback, Patrick Charles Duncan-AbuShalback, Shayna Duncan and Savannah Wilson; brother, Robert Heer of Bartonville; sister-in-law, Barbara Heer of Morton; two nieces; a nephew; and several great nieces and nephews.
Chuck was a graduate of Spalding Institute in Peoria and served in the USAR Control Group in the U.S. Army Corps for three years.
He graduated Magna cum Laude as a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA, on September 30, 1969.
Chuck was the Founder Vice President and Director of the Delta Delta PI from 1967 to 1968, received a Certificate of Proficiency in Basic Sciences in 1969, received his degree in X-ray in l969 at Palmer College and received his Certificate from the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard for Post Graduate and Extension Division.
He was recorded as a Registered Holistic Health Physician with the National Board of Registration and Examination of the F.A.H.H.D., was certified with the American Nutritional Medical Association in 1984 and received his Certificate of Proficiency from the Chinese Acupuncture Association in the Republic of China and the Acupuncture Society in 1993.
Chuck’s passion for health and healing and his drive for caring for his patients was portrayed in his continued education for new innovative procedures and to improve the relationships with other medical professionals. He had worked very hard with the association so the medical and chiropractors would work together. He also wrote weekly medical articles for the Peoria Journal Star.
He enjoyed life, loved trips to the beach and enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He liked classical music and enjoyed going to Mass where they sang Latin. His Lexus SUV was his pride and joy.
Chuck was of Catholic faith, last attending St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Chuck’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association – Central Illinois Chapter or to the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
