James Robinson

April 20, 1935 — June 13, 2011

James W. “Sonny” Robinson, 76, of Peoria, passed away at 1 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Peoria with the Reverend D. Bernard Curry officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at church on Saturday. Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
Sonny was born in Clarksdale, MS on April 20, 1935, a son of Jim and Willie Mae (Grant) Robinson. They preceded him in death, along with his stepmother, Macie Robinson and one brother, Lewis Grant.

He is survived by his special companion, Lillie Williams of Peoria, daughters, Verneda (David) Elliott of Jacksonville, Sarah Branch of Decatur, Sharon (Willie) Clay of East St. Louis, Serita Criss of Jacksonville, Patronia Robinson of Peoria; sons, James (Doreen) Bean of Rockford, Victor Branch of Springfield, Dean Myrick of Springfield and Todd (Kendra) Myrick of Denver; stepdaughters, Sandra (Carlos) Brown of Peoria, Brenda (Maurice) Williams of Peoria, Glenda (J.R.) Walls of Jacksonville, Glendora (Kevin) Lewis of St. Louis and Tanasha Smith of Chicago; stepson, Michael Williams of Peoria; sisters, Helen Hamilton of Peoria and Cecelia Grant of Chicago; brothers, Tommy Jackson of Chicago and Roosevelt (Montest) Monquie of Chicago; sister-in-law, Annie (Tommie) Brown of Peoria; special dear friends, William of Peoria and Ron of Mossville, twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In 1998, Sonny retired from the Laborer’s Local #231 in Peoria. After his retirement, he was employed with the Peoria Park District.
He was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Peoria, St. John’s Masonic Lodge #8 in Jacksonville and Laborer’s Local #231 in Jacksonville.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
