Jack R. Purtscher, 90, passed away May 14, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center of Peoria.
Jack was born in Peoria on August 7, 1922 to Anthony and Marie Purtscher. He married Martha Marshall on July 13, 1947. He is preceded in death by his wife; son; Steve, Parents, brother; Bob, and son in law; Mike Bernard.
He is survived by his daughters; Jackie Bernard of Chillicothe, Il, Sue (Dave) Johnson of Peoria Heights, Il, and Emily (Jeff) Shurtz of New Albany, In. Also surviving is 6 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
Jack was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during WWII, in the Motor pool. He also owned several business'; J.R. Purtscher Ready Mix Plant, Purtscher Barge Dock, and as a hobby; Purtscher Stables. Jack had a love for horses. He raised and showed horses throughout his entire life, his most favorite horse being DynaJoe. He was also a member of the Timberlake Country Club, and the American Paint Horse Association, where he served as president for several years.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday May 22, 2013 at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in Peoria, with Pastor Charles Dean officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
