Helen Dennis

Helen Louise Dennis, 83, of Peoria, formerly of Dunlap, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue in Peoria, with Pastor Scot M. Shelburne officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded, following services.
Helen was born in Kiowa, KS on September 4, 1929, the daughter of Sherman A. and Helen Blanche (Hittle) Burr. She married Donald D. Dennis in Peoria on April 20, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2007 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Dennis; and a brother, Donald Mack Burr.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Dennis of Peoria, Carol (the late Erwin) Brown of Peoria and Shirley Jean (Danny) Dugger of Shepherdsville, KY; grandchildren, Jeffery and Katie Parlier, Don Brown, Wendy (Chris Swanson) Dugger, Ellen (Keith) Rhodes, Carrie (Nick) Warren and Jason and Brian Dennis; great grandchildren, Tim, Taylor, Caley, Caitlyn, Mark, Natalie, Aiden, Lacey and Anna; brothers, Sherman A. (Dorothy) Burr, Jr. of Sacramento, CA and Harold D. (Sue) Burr of Pensacola, FL; brothers-in-law, Ron (Mary) Dennis of Peoria and Walter Taylor of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was a former member and in charge of the nursery, for thirty years, at Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap.
She enjoyed Bradley Braves Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball; cooking; taking care of her cat, George, and bird, Elvis; and she loved family trips and fishing for catfish off the dock at King Fisher Resort in Wisconsin.
Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program in Peoria.
