Harry Burns

Harry E. Burns, 91, of Peoria Heights, formerly of Washington, passed away at 7:47 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue in Peoria, with Fr. David P. Richardson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in West Peoria, with Military Funeral Honors by U.S. Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
Harry was born on August 26, 1924 in Peoria, the son of Harry E. and Jane (Johnson) Burns. He married Helen Louise Wolschlag in September of 1947 at St. John Parish in Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 24, 1967. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Rickey Boice. He married Martha W. (Brown) Cors on November 3, 1968 in Washington. She survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Rebecca A. (David) Folck of Peoria; sons, Michael P. (Crystal) Burns of Washington and Paul E. (Chris) Burns of Peoria; stepson, David W. Cors of Deer Creek; stepdaughter, Beverley S. Cors of Peoria; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Harry retired in 1995 as the Shoe Department Manager for Montgomery Ward. He was formerly employed in the Shoe Department at Crawford’s Shoe Store and Carson Pirie Scott & Co.
He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, serving in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He earned two Overseas Service Bars, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World-War II Victory Medal. He was a Member of the Deer Creek American Legion Post 1276.
He was a former parishioner at St. John Catholic Church, merging with St. Boniface Catholic Church in 1994 to form St. Ann Catholic Church.
