Frederick “Fred” Chambers, 80, of Peoria, died at 9:45 a.m. on February 4, 2017, at Heddington Oaks Nursing Home in West Peoria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Peoria, with Father Jim
Pankiewicz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will follow the Mass at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
Fred was born Nov. 27, 1936, in Waukon, Iowa, to Allison and Etta (Liddiard) Chambers. He married Marcella (Alexander) Boyd in 1972; she preceded him in death in 1985. He then married Bernice (Johnson) Gorman on April 11, 1992. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 2010.
Survivors include one brother, Leo Chambers of Peoria; two sisters, Darlene (Jim) Anstett and Mary Bridges, both of Peoria; four nieces and three nephews.
Fred was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and lector. He also was a member of the Secular Franciscans, St. Jude Knights of Columbus, Honor Guard for the Bishop, and was a member and past Commander of American Legion Post 2.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Fred worked as a laborer at United Facilities.
He loved his Catholic faith and encouraged others in their growth in their faith. He was very proud of his military service.
Memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s memory to Sacred Heart Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
