Franklin D. Schmider, age 83, of Mapleton, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Frank was born to Delano and Joyce (Atkins) Schmider on December 12, 1932 in Peoria. He married Doris E. Libolt on July 4, 1955 in Peoria Heights. They shared 54 wonderful years together before her death on February 22, 2009.
Frank is survived by his children, Brad (Susan) Schmider of Mapleton, Lynne Brubaker of Peoria Heights, and Bill (Margaret) Schmider of Hanna City; grandchildren, Stormie, Danielle, Kristen, Jessica, and Jennifer; great-granchildren, Jayden and Caylee; sister, June (Bill) Arnold of Sunnyland; and brother-in-law Bill (JoAnn) Libolt of Hanna City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister JoAnn (Art) Kensinger, and his brother Dale Schmider.
Frank, or "Honey" as some knew him, was a wonderful, selfless man who loved his family wholeheartedly. He will always be remembered for being involved with the food pantry at Peoria Heights Congregational Church, where he was a member for many years. Frank was a sheet metal worker and a member of Sheet Metal Local 1, an Army veteran who served in the Korean War, and was also a member of the American Legion. He had the opportunity to go on the Honor Flight earlier this year and he loved every minute of it. Family was the main focus of Frank's life; Whether it was a family fish fry or Christmas Eve, he always wanted to be around his family. Anyone who knew Frank would remember his insatiable love of food. There was nothing he wouldn't eat, and not a day will go by that people won't remember his one-liner jokes, and most of all, his loving smile. Now, Frank can enjoy an endless buffet in the sky.
A funeral service for Frank will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Peoria Heights Congregational Church at 11:00am. Pastor Dan Aguilar will officiate. Visitation will be held at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm, and also at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
Memorials in honor of Frank may be made to Peoria Heights Congregational Church Food Pantry or the American Heart Society.
