Ernie Crowl

October 26, 1932 — January 7, 2016

Ernie Crowl, 83, of Peoria, passed away at 11:11 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria. Interment and Military Honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery in Moline at Noon on Monday, January 11, 2016.
Ernie was born on October 26, 1932 in La Grange, MO, a son of Ellis Marion and Lovelle (McCullough) Crowl. They preceded him in death along with his brother, William (Bea) Crowl. He married Rise Deanne Woodruff in San Diego, CA on April 30, 1988. She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Brenda Gioud of California, Glenda Estes of Oklahoma, Marian (Jordan) Lyman of Yuba City, CA, Robert (Francis) Crowl of El Cajon, CA, Keith Crowl of Campo, CA and Kathy Smith of Lawton, OK; brothers, William (Bea) Crowl and Verl (Rise) Crowl, both of Covington, WA, Paul (Diane) Crowl of Escondido, CA; sister, Helen Darrow of Pueblo, CO; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and three great –great grandchildren.
Ernie was the Director of Environmental Services at Bay General Community Hospital in Chula Vista, CA. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1971 during the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cold War. He first worked on diesel submarines and then nuclear submarines.
He was a member of the Navy Marine Club Ship 34 and VFW Post 2602, both in Peoria Heights, Korean War Veterans Association in Bartonville, Fleet Reserve Association and Chairman of the Veteran’s Assistance Commission.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ernie’s name to the Greater Peoria Area Honor Flight.
