Edith Marie Gricus, 86, of Peoria, passed away at 12:14 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Heartland Health Care Center of Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue in Peoria, with her brother, Coopie Nelson, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Edith was born on May 23, 1927 in Peoria, a daughter of Osmond K.M. and Zella Marie (Bidner) Nelson. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Donald R. Guyette and Francis V.J. Gricus; son, Daniel Guyette; brother, Earl Nelson; sister in-law, Eleanor Nelson; and one grandson.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Marie (Gricus) Kasky of Peoria; son, Paul (Barbara) Gricus of Dunlap; brothers, Harold (Jan) Nelson of Peoria and Arthur “Coopie” (Dee Ann) Nelson of Tiskilwa; sister, Alice Guyette and good friend, Mary Walsh, of Okeechobee, FL; and six grandchildren, Seth, Jeana, Sean and Shane Kasky and Matthew and Justin Gricus.
Edith studied Interior Design in New York City. She returned to Peoria in 1965 and was employed with Demanes Interiors and later on her own, as Edith Guyette Fabrics. She was an expert in her field and loved her career for over thirty-seven years.
Since 1936, at the age of nine, Edith was a member of First Christian Church of Peoria. She was very involved with the church in earlier years and loved singing in the choir. She was proud to be a part of the Billy Graham Crusade in the 1960s in New York City. She helped with the ministry and was in the choir. She brought several people to the Lord, by sharing her faith.
She was diligent, caring, giving and persistent. She loved her family, her church and was a hard worker, being a perfectionist in her career
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Peoria or Harbor Lights Hospice.
