Dorothy Vanier

Dorothy Mae “Dottie” Vanier, 67, of Peoria passed away at 3:18 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born May 31, 1948 in Macomb, a daughter of Wayne and Darlene (Fisher) Powell. She married Jay Gordon Vanier on July 1, 1967 in Macomb.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jay Vanier; their two children, Scott (Debbie) Vanier of Peoria and Jodi (Richard) Moore of St. Augustine, FL; two grandchildren, Clayton and Taylor Moore; sister, Barbara Rotondi; brother, Richard Powell; and her beloved dog, Max.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and infant daughter, Stacey.
Dorothy's goal was always to be a nurse. She started as a Candy Striper at a young age. She received an Associate Degree from Carl Sandberg College in 1977. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Bradley University in 1986, where she was recognized for academic excellence with the June Snow Award, while being a wife, mother of two children and working full-time.
She was employed with OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg as a Cardiac Nurse, from 1977 to 1988. From 1988 to 2011, she was employed with HeartCare Midwest in Peoria.
Dottie had a warm heart, a great smile and was very compassionate to all. Some of her greatest pleasures were reading, traveling, volunteering and spending special times with her family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015, followed by a Celebration of Life service, with the Reverend Dr. Thomas R. Logsdon officiating, at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria. As she requested, cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Crittenton Centers in Peoria or to the charity of your choice.
