Charlotte Romaine Whalen, 81, of Peoria, Il, passed away on June 2, 2013 at Washington Christian Village Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be held at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home on June 6, 2013 at 11 AM. Father David Richardson of St. Philomena Catholic Church will officiate. A private burial will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 AM at the funeral home. Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Charlotte was born in Peoria, Il on December 17, 1931 to Henry C and Katherine (Frecker) Franzgrote . She married Robert Charles Whalen on January 20, 1951, he survives.
She is survived by her children; Timothy (Karen) Whalen of Brighton, Co., Mary Kay (Tim) Southey of Bloomington, Il., Terrance (Barbara) Whalen of Mapleton, Il., Thomas (Karen) Whalen of Peoria, Il., James (Kelley) Whalen of Crystal Lake, Il., 15 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Clara Strassburger, Anne Hoehne, and Mary Franzgrote.
Charlotte was a devoted Wife, loving Mother, and Cherished grandmother. She will always be remembered for her passion for cooking, especially her different German recipes. Her grandkids will never forget her homemade fudge that was given to each of them every Christmas. Charlotte loved to knit afghans, crafts, and enjoyed playing board games.
Heaven received another angel. Charlotte was beautiful from the inside, out. She taught us all to love greatly with her gentle and compassionate spirit. She will be greatly missed.
