Charles Evans

Charles L. Evans, 81, of Peoria passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014, under the care of the Fred Evans’ family.
He was born January 21, 1933, in New Albany, MS to the late Orlando “Ches” and Onnie  (Palmer) Evans. They preceded him in death, along with three brothers: Fred Wheaton, Palmer Evans and Allen Evans.  On February 11, 1953, he married Natalie Rogers.
Charles honorably served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated Korean War veteran.  He received welding training in Carbondale, IL and worked for Caterpillar in the Peoria area for more than twenty-five years, until his retirement as a General Inspector in 1987.  He also served as the Grand Exalted Ruler of the Peter H. Clark Elks Lodge #483 in Peoria.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Natalie; his children, Darlene Evans of Houston, TX, Michael (Mary) Evans, Kim Evans and Paula Evans, all of Peoria; sister, Hazel Leaper of New Albany; brothers, Roscoe Evans and Fred (Glenda) Evans, all of Peoria; grandchildren, Eron Evans and Kyle Crawford of Texas, Martien Williams, Myk (Breon) Phillips, Perrian Fuller, Lacey Fuller and Jordan Lindsay, all of Illinois; eleven great-grand children; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Charles was a member of St. Luke MB Church under the direction of Pastor William Sturdivant and will be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, traveling and storytelling.
Funeral services will be at noon on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Prince of Peace MB Church in Peoria, with visitation two hours prior to services at the church.  Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with military honors by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lagoski and his team, OSF Hospice, Fred and Glenda Evans and their family, George Taylor and the 50’s Diner Breakfast Club for their care and concern.
The family will be receiving friends at 715 West Hampshire Road in Peoria.
Memorials contributions may be made to his church, St. Luke MB Church in Peoria.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
