Brenda Nesbitt

Brenda Kay Nesbitt, 51, of Peoria, passed away at 3:03 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center.
She was born in Peoria on September 27, 1960, a daughter of Edmund “Big Ray” and Shirley (Allen) Freeman. She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Sterling Johnson; and sister, Joangela Freeman.
She married Dennis Nesbitt on October 16, 1982 at her church, St. Luke Baptist, in Peoria. He survives.
Brenda will be missed by her mother, Shirley “Nana” Freeman Johnson of Peoria; sons, Shaine (Candy) Freeman of Kennesaw, GA and Eugene Walker of Tulsa, OK; daughters, Chia (Chris) Neal of Marietta, GA and Cherita (Eric) Wilson of Brookings, OR; stepmother, Cleo Freeman of Milan; brothers, Albert McMahan of Danville, Raymond Freeman of West Virginia, Grant Freeman and Mark Roberson of Peoria; sisters, Fran Walker of Peoria, Tina Garcia of Moline and Cheryl Williams of Mishawaka, IN; eleven grandchildren; uncle Billy (Peggy) Allen; stepbrother, Lester (Cassandra) Johnson of Austin, TX; stepsister, Avis (Sonny) Duncan of Colorado Springs, CO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She attended school in Peoria, graduating from Manual High School. She earned her Associate Degree in Medical Terminology from Southern Illinois University and her Bachelor Degree in Social Justice from Sangamon State University.
Brenda was a formerly employed as a teacher, guidance counselor, a Probation Officer for Peoria County and a Charge Nurse at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
She collected angels and loved to cook. She could be counted on to lend a helping hand, whenever she was needed. Her final act of helping others was to be an organ donor.
At her request, the family will have a private gathering. There will be no formal visitation or funeral.
Memorial contributions may be made in Brenda’s memory to any diabetes research organization or to the South Side Mission in Peoria.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
