Betty Jean Garstka, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at her home.
Memorial services to celebrate Betty’s life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Peoria Heights Congregational Church, with the Rev. Karl Kraemer officiating. A private entombment will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Peoria, prior to services.
Betty was born in Peoria Heights on September 29, 1923, a daughter of Fred E. and Viola C. (Wallace) Favorite. She married Walter G. “Wally” Garstka on June 18, 1956 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1990 in Peoria.
She is survived by her sister, June C. Hall of Snyder Village in Metamora; brother, Robert F. (Kathy) Favorite of Peoria Heights; nieces and nephews, Judy (Tom) Dorsey of Memphis, Bonnie (Tom) Hulting of East Peoria, Scott (Shari) Favorite of Peoria Heights and Laura Favorite of Peoria Heights.
Betty was a proud 1941 graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria. She retired, after sixteen years of service, as a cosmetologist for Merle Norman Cosmetics in Peoria.
She was a very caring and giving person, serving as a member of the Proctor Hospital Service Auxiliary, a member of Peoria Heights Congregational Church and a member of the Peoria Heights Congregational Church Choir.
Betty was a member of the Peoria Women’s 9-Hole Golf League, the Newman Senior Ladies Golf League and participated in several Peoria City Championship Golf Tournaments.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nilah Reiman for her assistance during this difficult time.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Methodist Hospice or to Apostolic Christian Skylines, both in Peoria.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue in Peoria.
