Rev. Jenkins, Sr.

January 25, 1934 — October 12, 2016

Rev. Thomas E. Jenkins Sr., 82, of Peoria, passed away at 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Heaven’s View Christian Fellowship in Peoria, with the Rev. Tony Pierce officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Thomas was born on January 25, 1934 in Grace, MS, a son of Johnny and Mary Magdalene (Harbison) Jenkins. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Jenkins, and his grandmother, who raised him, Clarissa Price. He married Kattie M. Williams on December 31, 1983 in Peoria. He was formerly married to Elnora (Tate) Jenkins.
He is survived by his wife, Kattie M. Jenkins of Peoria; sons, Anthony (Taunya) Jenkins of Metamora, Thomas E. Jenkins Jr. of Greenville, MS and Arthur Armstrong of Laurel, MD; daughters, Debra A. Ervin of Williamsville, NY, Denise (Larry) Wilson of Richmond, TX, Yolanda (Cecil) Gibson of North Little Rock, AR and Tonya Barns of Peoria; sister, Audrey Jenkins of Jackson, MS; brothers, James (Mary Linn) Jenkins of San Bernardino, CA, Andrew (JoAnn) Jenkins and Aaron Jenkins of Jackson, MS and the Rev. Allen (Sharon) Jenkins of Biloxi, MS; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Thomas retired, as head mechanic, from the City of Peoria, after almost thirty years of service. He was formerly employed with Caterpillar at the JJ facility in East Peoria.
He was an ordained minister and a member of Heaven’s View Christian Fellowship in Peoria, where he was active in their Male Chorus and Building and Grounds Committees. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Atomic Jets Motorcycle Club in Peoria.
Thomas loved spending time with his children and going back home to Mississippi. He will be remembered as a jolly, funny and loving gentleman.
Funeral arrangements have been entrust to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
