Leonard DeFoe

Leonard W. DeFoe, 101, died at Rosewood Care Center on March 17, 2014. Prior to his short stay at Rosewood, Leonard resided at 611 E. Maywood Ave., Peoria, IL, for 64 years.
Leonard was born January 17, 1913, in Rome, IL, to Richard W. and Elizabeth E. (Fischer) DeFoe. He married Dorothy Virginia Pollman April 18, 1945. She preceded him in death November 1, 1980.
He is survived by one son, Richard J. DeFoe of Peoria, one daughter, Gloria J. (John) Gresham of Scappoose, OR, and two grandsons, Timothy J. (Collet) Gresham and Douglas M. (Melissa) Gresham both of Portland, OR, who were his pride and joy. He also has two great grandsons, Kyle R. Gresham and Ryan J. Gresham, both of Portland, OR, and two great granddaughters, Brittany (Tye) Kaple of Yakima, WA, and Brooke Morgan of Portland, OR, all of whom he adored. Leonard is also survived by two nieces, Donna (Stan) Harris of Peoria, and Karen (Ron) Kemp of Morton, whose kindness and thoughtfulness were very much appreciated.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles DeFoe and Donald DeFoe, and two sisters, Lillian (Charles) Droll and Bess (Harold) Tomasson, all of Rome.
Leonard loved the monthly luncheons with his good friends from Lambda Sorority and phone calls with friends.
He was a salesman for Kraft Foods Co. for 33 years, and he was a practicing Methodist.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 22, 2014, at 3:00 pm at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home located at 428 West McClure Ave, Peoria. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Peoria, IL.
